23.03.2016 : The Johan Sverdrup Project

As we all know, these are trying times for the oil and gas industry. The decline in the oil price has badly affected the industry, which in turn, has led to less investment, job cuts and oil fields operating at a loss. In recent weeks/months, the oil price seems to be slowly recovering, which is a good sign for many in the industry. Another positive sign is that there are numerous ongoing projects which many companies are benefiting from. One such project is the Johan Sverdrup project.

The Johan Sverdrup project is an oil field located in the North Sea with an estimated value of upward of $12,000 ($M). This represents huge value to the industry. It is one of the largest oil discoveries made on the Norwegian continental shelf. The Johan Sverdrup project is operated by a number of different companies, with the main equity holder being Statoil. We look forward to us Engineering GREAT together.

With the amount of equipment, construction and processes involved in the Johan Sverdrup project, fantastic opportunity for special fastener manufacturers, and in particular special fastener manufacturers that are approved to NORSOK is generated. IMI SSF are one of the few who are approved to NORSOK for manufacturing and forging fasteners. NORSOK accreditation is crucial for many involved in the Johan Sverdrup project. It represents an important quality that few can achieve.

As the Johan Sverdrup project starts to gain traction, more suppliers are looking towards IMI SSF for help with their fastener requirements. Suppliers on the project seek high quality, fully traceable, fully certified products. Lead time and delivery is another important factor that suppliers consider. With IMI SSF operating with a delivery performance of over 98%, they can be rest assured that they are in experienced, capable hands.

If more information is required on the Johan Sverdrup project or NORSOK, the contact details are listed below. IMI SSF welcome all visitors, and we appreciate hearing from suppliers and potential suppliers.

Not only will the new facility increase SSF’s capacity, but will also serve as a showcase to the benefits of lean manufacturing for other IMI group companies.
